1.1 The purpose of this Standard is to provide the minimum basic requirements and the basic guidelines for GCC Petroleum, Petrochemicals and Natural Gas Industries and Contractor personnel involved in design, engineering, manufacture, installation. The fire protection and safety requirements are broadly divided into the following categories: a. Fire Protection (i) Active Fire Protection (ii) Passive Fire protection b. Safety Equipments The requirements of active fire protection and safety equipment are covered under this Standard. 1.2 This Standard specifies the minimum basic requirements of design, engineering, manufacture, installation and performance of the following Fire Protection and Safety Equipment: a. Fire Fighting system (i) Fire Water system (ii) Water Sprinkler/ Deluge system (iii) Foam system (iv) Portable / Mobile Fire Fighting equipments b. First-aid kits, Breathing apparatus, Safety showers, Safety signs & notices and Wind socks 1.3 Exclusions a. Passive Fire Protection. b. The Active Fire Protection system other than water based viz. Clean agent, Dry powder etc. are not covered under this Standard. c. Certain specific exclusions are given for buildings in non-hazardous areas such as residential buildings, offices, sports complex, warehouse / stores etc. which are situated in the areas outside the operational areas. Such exclusions are noted under the relevant clauses.
