This Standard specifies the Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) and testing requirements of water heaters. Category of water heaters falling in the scope of this standard are:  Electric storage water heaters  Instantaneous electric water heaters  Heat pump water heaters  Solar water heaters (combined or not with additional energy supply)  Storage tanks It shall apply to water heaters that operate according to GSO 1899. It shall apply to water heaters with power under or equal to 70 kW. It shall apply to products with a capacity up to 2,000 liters for all types of water heaters. This standard does not apply to:  Water heaters using solid fuels.  Water heaters designed for making hot drinks and or food only. This standard after approval will replace and supersede the energy performance requirement mentioned in GSO 1858 and 1859. Water heaters falling under the scope of this standard that is manufactured for the Saudi market shall follow the Saudi’s standard SASO 2884. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates is excluded from this standard; the UAE Water Heaters Regulation applies.
